GoFrogs: TCU in Third Place After Opening Round of Big 12 Championship
HOCKLEY, Texas – TCU is in position to finish in the top-half of the Big 12 Championship following Thursday's opening round at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
The Horned Frogs are in sole possession of third place after shooting a seven-over 291. TCU tallied a tournament-high 16 birdies and led the 13-team field in par-3 scoring (3.16). Only No. 8 Texas (+2) and No. 36 Houston (+4) enjoyed better rounds.
Sofia Barroso Sá is tied for fourth at minus-one (70) and just a stroke back of the top of the leaderboard. The sophomore bagged five birdies, three of which came on the back-nine. Barroso Sá has been under par in two of her last three rounds in Big 12 Championship play. She garnered Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team recognition as a freshman after tying for sixth at the 2023 iteration of the tournament. From Belmonte, Portugal, Barroso Sá led the 65-player field in par-3 scoring at minus-2 (2.16).
Meagan Winans finished plus-one and is tied for 12th. She was one-under over her final 14 holes and ranked third among all players on par fives (minus-two, 4.50). Winans has placed inside the top-half of TCU's lineup in four consecutive rounds dating back to the Silverado Showdown on April 8-10 in Napa, Calif. A junior, Winans tied for 27th in TCU's regular season finale to ascend 77 spots in the Scoreboard individual rankings.
Freshmen Kirstin Angosta and Sofie Dimitrova rounded out TCU's day one scorecard at three-over and four-over, respectively. Angosta shot an even-par 36 on the back nine while Dimitrova was plus-two on both sets of the 7,007-yard course.
Lois Lau finished seven-over (78) but carded four birdies.
TCU has finished fifth or better in five of its 11 Big 12 Championship appearances under head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. The Horned Frogs took third place in 2023.
