GoFrogs: Women's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Slate

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU women's basketball program and head coach Raegan Pebley announced the non-conference portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Thursday. The 11-game slate features eight games at home inside Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
"The 2018-19 schedule has the potential to teach and test our squad," Pebley said. "We intentionally scheduled as many teams we could that not only return a core group of veterans but also are positioned to play in the postseason themselves."
Coming off a 23-win season that saw them reach the WNIT Semifinals, the Frogs will open the 2018-19 campaign with a three-game homestand.
The season will tip off at Noon CT on Nov. 6 against Duquesne, which finished 25-8 and reached the third round of the Women's NIT last year.
That contest will be followed by a 2 p.m. tilt versus Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 11 and a 2 p.m. showdown against SMU on Nov. 18. TCU and SMU will be playing for the 61st time, the most games the Frogs have played against any opponent in program history. TCU has won 13 of the last 18 matchups against the Mustangs, including a 64-58 decision in Dallas last year.
The Horned Frogs will then hit the road for the first time, traveling to California for the San Diego State University Classic, Nov. 23-24, at Viejas Arena. They will open the tournament against BYU (Time: TBA) before taking on the host Aztecs the following day at 9 p.m. CT.
TCU will then remain on the road as it is set to travel to Oxford, Miss., where it will take on Ole Miss as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge on Nov. 29 (Time: TBA).
The Horned Frogs and Rebels will be meeting for just the fourth time in their history. The last contest came in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, when Ole Miss claimed an 88-74 decision in Hartford, Conn. TCU's only other trip to Oxford, Miss., came in the 1994-95 season on the back end of a home-and-home series, following a visit to Fort Worth by the Rebels for the initial meeting between the two squads the previous year.
The Horned Frogs posted an 88-67 home victory over Alabama in last year's SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Overall, TCU is 1-1 in the event.
A five-game homestand will then close out the non-conference portion of TCU's schedule.
Army, which has notched six consecutive winning seasons, will make its first trip ever to Fort Worth for a 2 p.m. contest on Dec. 2 before the Frogs host Montana State at 1 p.m. on Dec. 8, and 2017-18 SWAC regular-season champion Southern University at 2 p.m. on Dec. 16.
TCU will then host Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 and Alcorn State at 2 p.m. on Dec. 29 in its final preparations before Big 12 action.
The game against Sam Houston State will mark the continuation of a long-standing series, as the Bearkats will be visiting Fort Worth for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. TCU is 14-4 all-time in the series, including 14 consecutive wins dating back to a 1996 victory in Wichita, Kansas.
The Horned Frogs' Big 12 schedule and television coverage information will be released at later dates.

The Horned Frogs earned their first top-25 ranking since 2010, while the nine Big 12 regular-season victories equaled their most in program history. TCU also advanced to the Big 12 Championship semifinal round for the first time.
Among the team's eight total returning players are 2017-18 All-Big 12 Second-Team selection and Sixth Man Award winner Amy Okonkwo, as well as All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honorees Jordan Moore and Kianna Ray.
