Frogs total 10 blocks in win

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team stretched their win streak to five games with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 27-25) win over UAB Friday night in front of 1,334 fans.

The Horned Frogs totaled 10 blocks in the contest, led by six from Kristen Hester. Meghan Horio picked up her eighth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 11 digs. Irene Hester also tallied a double-double with a team-high 13 kills and 12 digs. Jordan Raines pitched in with a double-double, totaling 11 kills and picking up 10 digs. Kay Lin Connolly and Christy Hudson also pitched in with 12 digs. Hannah Fort served up two aces, totaled three blocks and four kills.

Raines served the Frogs to a 2-0 lead and TCU was off and running to a dominating 25-8 set one victory. A kill from Hudson gave the Frogs a 7-2 lead, forcing a Blazer timeout. The break did nothing to cool the Frog attack as Fort blasted a kill to start a 7-0 run by the Frogs. Irene Hester mixed in a pair of aces around kills from Raines and Hudson to open up a commanding 15-4 lead.

Fort took the service line with the Frogs leading 16-4 and pushed the lead to 14, 19-5. An ace from Fort and a solo denial on the outside by Hudson highlighted the run. Kristen Hester gave the Frogs set point and Irene Hester finished the win with her third kill of the set.

The Blazers settled in and gave the Frogs a fight early in set two. A block by Hudson and Fort in the middle spurred a 9-4 run that put the Frogs in front by five, 11-6. UAB fought back with a 3-0 run of its own to pull within two, 12-10.

Kristen Hester's serve neutralized the Blazers as she pushed the Frog lead to eight, 19-11. She served up an ace between kills from Irene Hester, Horio and Fort. An ace from Hudson gave the Frogs set point and Raines locked up the 25-16 set two victory for TCU.

The Frogs took control of the third set early, leading 15-12. Guiding the Frogs to the early lead were Kristen Hester, who picked up her second solo block of the match, Irene Hester, who was firing on all cylinders with four kills and Jordan Raines, who pitched in with two kills.

TCU's early lead prompted a Blazer timeout, which turned the set around. A 10-5 run turned the Frog lead into a 22-20 deficit. The Frogs fought back to tie the set at 24 on back-to-back kills from Hudson. TCU again faced set point, but an attack error by UAB tied the set at 25. A blast from Raines gave TCU match point and an ace from Fort sealed the 27-25 victory.

The Frogs improve to 8-4 on the season. They will wrap up play in the Nike Invitational Saturday afternoon against Ohio. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the University Rec Center.
