GoFrogs: W. Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader

FORT WORTH, Texas – The 2017 dual match season for the TCU women’s tennis team got off to a winning start, as the Horned Frogs earned a 5-1 victory over UTEP and a 6-0 sweep of Abilene Christian in a doubleheader at the Teague Center in Abilene, Texas on Saturday.

The Frogs (2-0) only dropped two matches the whole days as bounced back from a slow start in doubles to finish off the Miners (0-1), before blanking the host Wildcats (0-1) to end the weekend’s competition.

Senior Seda Arantekin was the lone player to go 4-0 over singles and doubles as the No. 75 ranked singles player posted straight set wins over UTEP and ACU while also pairing up with partner Caroline Wegner for two doubles wins. Olaya Garrido-Rivas also went 2-0 in singles as she easily handled Raven Bennett of UTEP, 6-0, 6-1, before taking three sets to take out Sarah Adams of ACU. Alexis Pereira and Aleksandra Zenovka also finished out the weekend undefeated in doubles, as the pair helped TCU win the doubles point in both matches.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
“It feels good to get the duel season started. Playing a doubleheader on the road is not easy, but our girls handled it with great maturity. We were a little rusty in doubles against UTEP and escaped with a close win. Against Abilene Christian we were much sharper and it was great to see. I would consider both UTEP and Abilene Christian top-75 quality teams and so we feel good about winning these convincingly. We know in order to continue moving towards where we want to be, we have to improve daily in the details of better understanding our game identity and executing our system better under pressure. Next up is a doubles point against Wichita state- who beat us in doubles last year and that can't happen again. We've got to prepare better this week for their good doubles."
