GoFrogs: TCU Splits to End the Fight in the Fort

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 20 TCU beach volleyball team concluded the Fight in the Fort and went 3-1 on the weekend by beating Central Arkansas (2-4) at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts in Fort Worth on Sunday.

The Horned Frogs (10-10, 2-1 CCSA) faced No. 7 Cal Poly (10-5) to begin the day. The teams split the first two pairs, but Caroline White and Jordan Westendorff were able to force a third set. They were unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Mustangs' Delaney Peranich and Macy Gordon, 21-18, 12-21, 15-13. The Frogs picked up a win on court two as Molly Scheel and Taylor Bradley fought in a back-and-forth affair in their first set and ended up winning the match, 27-25, 21-11. The Frogs were unable to win on courts one or three and fell to Cal Poly, 3-2.

TCU's next match against UCA was the final one of the tournament. The Frogs cruised to an early 2-0 lead and were propelled by Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett's quick win on court five, 21-16, 21-10. A third sweep of the weekend was up for grabs after wins on court two and three. Mandi Orellana and Haven Hill forced a third set on court one after recovering from a slow start. However, the Bear's pair of Haley Tippett and Colene Hamilton were able to outlast the Frogs and picked up their only win of the match.

Quotes from the Weekend
Head Coach Hector Gutierrez
"We played very well this weekend. The girls did a terrific job of being consistent in every match they played. We fell short against No. 7 Cal Poly, but we battled until the end and showed once again that we are a hard team to beat. Thanks to the families and fans for their support this weekend."
