GoFrogs: TCU Comes Up Short at Oklahoma

NORMAN, OK -- TCU volleyball (5-6) lost its Big 12 season opener to Oklahoma (9-3) in Norman, Wednesday night. Sophomore outside hitter élan McCall saw her first action of the season, contributing nine digs from the back row in the loss.

"I thought we were really locked in coming into the match," head coach Jill Kramer said. "But we were a little too juiced at the beginning of set one, which led to some early unforced errors. I never felt like we really got settled in and competed until late in the third set. Tonight was one of our better serving performances and we put pressure on OU from the service line which was good to see. That is something we can build on going into the match against KSU on Saturday."

TCU NOTABLES:
  • Freshman outside hitter Audrey Nalls finished with 10 digs, her fourth double-digit dig match of the season.
  • Sophomore right side Katie Clark led the team, along with Nalls, by contributing eight kills.
  • Junior libero Berklie Baker led the team with 11 digs, her fourth straight 10+ dig match and eighth of the season.
  • Nalls has earned at least 10.0 points in every match she's played as a Horned Frog extending her double-digit point streak to 11 matches tonight.
  • McCall was limited to playing just in just the back row but contributed nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 (OU, 25-17): Early attacking errors helped the Sooners jump out to an 8-3 lead. TCU answered with a 4-0 run to bring the score within one, but the Frogs couldn't string together more than two points in a row from that point on and Oklahoma claimed the opening set. Redshirt junior Ashley Waggle led the team with three kills and Nalls posted two blocks to open the match.

Set 2 (OU, 25-17): Attacking continued to be an issue against the formidable defense of Oklahoma. TCU kept it close in the early going, trailing by just one point, 13-14. But the Sooners closed out the set in the coming points and took a two-set lead into the five-minute break. Nalls led the team with three kills in the set, accounting for three of TCU's first five points.

Set 3 (OU, 25-23): The Frogs showed their fighting spirit in the third set. After falling behind, 12-17. TCU stormed back, winning six of the next seven points, tying the set at 18. However, the Sooners jumped ahead once again and soon led the set, 24-21. TCU staved off a pair of match points, but Oklahoma took the set, 25-23. Clark led the resurgence with five kills and a block to go along with four kills from Nalls and three more from Adams.

UP NEXT:
TCU will celebrate its Big 12 home-opener on Saturday, Sept. 28 against Kansas State. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. (CT)
