GoFrogs: Trio of Frogs Invited to U.S. Olympic Trials

FORT WORTH — A past, present and future Horned Frog have been invited to the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Ronnie Baker, Robert Gregory Jr. and Sydney Juszczyk (JEW-sek) have been accepted into the trials. A top-three finish secures them a spot donning the red, white and blue in Tokyo.

Baker, a TCU alumni, stole the show at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on March 27 at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

The former Frog and five-time Diamond League Champion broke the 29-year-old meet record in the 100 and owned the fastest time in the world at 9.94 at the time. His mark currently stands at fifth in the world.

In 2018, Baker recorded a 9.93 in the 100m at the Rome (Italy) Diamond League meet which registered as the fastest wind-legal time in the world since August 2017. It was the second time he beat 2016 Olympian Christian Coleman in the span of a week. In July of 2020, he clocked a 10 flat at the AP Ranch High Performance Invite, edging Olympian and 2017 100m World Champion Justin Gatlin by .07 seconds

During his time in Fort Worth, Baker was a two-time national champion in the 60m and a 12-time All-American. His indoor personal-best time in the 60m is 6.40, slotting him as the third-fastest man in the history of the event.

Baker will run in the first round of the 100m at 7:34 p.m. CT on June 19th with the semifinals and finals occurring at 8:19 p.m. CT and 9:52 p.m. CT the next day, respectively.

Gregory Jr. qualified in the 200m but won't run due to an injury that he sustained at the 2021 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships. His phenomenal freshman campaign came to a close with First Team All-America honors in the 200m. A time of 21.74 placed the talented sprinter eighth overall after recording a 20.40 in the semifinals.

Gregory Jr. also ran the anchor leg on the 4x100 relay that garnered Second Team All-America honors. At the conference championship he collected a silver medal in the 200m and a gold medal as the anchor of TCU's 4x100 relay.

During indoor season, Gregory Jr. was named a Second-Team All-American in the 200m.

Juszczyk, a TCU signee, recently became the No. 6 javelin thrower in prep history, according to MileSplit. She competes at 3 p.m. CT on June 25th with finals taking place at 7:30 p.m. CT the following day.

The exceptional javelin thrower is a senior at Trinity Catholic in St. Louis, Missouri, and leads all U.S. high school girls with a 177-11 (54.22m) personal-best throw from the Border War Championships meet. That distance would be the No. 15 mark in the NCAA this year and ranks 14th across the United States.

She has dominated the javelin high school ranks since her freshman year, winning back-to-back Missouri state championships in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 Missouri state meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Juszczyk has never been ranked outside the national top-10 in her four prep years. As a freshman, she recorded a 161-8 (49.28m), earning her the No. 6 spot.

In July of 2020, she won the javelin event at the Hammerman USA All-Throwers League Meet in Aurora, Ill., with a mark of 164-7.25 (50.17m), cementing her as the No. 1 high school javelin thrower in the country.

The two-time Missouri Class 3 state champion started competing as a 13-year-old under her father, Peter, who is a former javelin thrower from Southern Illinois University. Her mother, Tamekia, also ran collegiate track as a successful 400 meter sprinter.

NBC will air coverage of the trials across NBC and NBCSN. A full competition schedule can be found here.
