GoFrogs: Trio Garner All-Big 12 Honors

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU women’s tennis student-athletes Seda Arantekin, Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Sofiko Kadzhaya were honored by the Big 12 Conference by being named to the All-Big 12 teams as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Arantekin became a double honoree for the second straight season as the senior was named to the All-Big 12 Singles First Team and All-Big 12 Doubles Second Team. Garrido-Rivas joined Arantekin on the All-Big 12 Doubles Second Team, while Kadzhaya was named to the All-Big 12 Singles Second Team. This marks the second honor for both Garrido-Rivas and Kadzhaya who were both named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2016 and 2014, respectively.

Ranked No. 61 in singles, Arantekin has played at the top position all spring and has been ranked inside the top 100 every week this season. The Istanbul, Turkey native posted 17 wins in singles action this year with 10 of them coming in dual match play. Arantekin defeated one ranked opponent this year in singles and posted two wins in conference action.

The pair of Arantekin and Garrido-Rivas are currently ranked No. 31 in the Oracle/ITA doubles poll with a 5-1 record this season and three wins over ranked opponents. After not seeing action in the lineup the first two months of play, Kadzhaya came in clutch when conference action started as the senior posted three wins in Big 12 play and two wins over ranked opponents. Kadzhaya has a team-best 19 wins this season with eight of them coming in dual match play.

TCU will begin competition in the NCAA Division I Team Championship by traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., for the first and second rounds at Stanford from May 13-14. The Frogs will face No. 36 Rice on Saturday at Noon, CT, in the first round.
