TCU Qualifies 18 for NCAA Prelims

FORT WORTH, Texas - The NCAA announced on Thursday the entries for the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary meet. TCU track and field qualified 18 entries in 16 events for the first round of the NCAA championship, scheduled for May 23-25 in Sacramento, Calif.

In order to qualify for the west preliminary round, individuals must be ranked in the top 48 of declared athletes in their events and relays must be ranked in the top 24. The top 12 in each event from the first round will advance to Austin, Texas, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

TCU brings four top 10 seeds to the West Prelims. Two-time Big 12 Champion and two-time NCAA third-place finisher Chengetayi Mapaya enters the meet as the top seed in the men's triple jump with a jump of 16.64m (54-7.25). Derrick Mokaleng, a two-time 400m First-Team All-American, will be the No.2 seed in Sacramento in the 400m with a time of 45.17. In the men's 4x400 relay, TCU's Big 12 Championship group of Jostyn Andrews, Tinotenda Matiyenga, Glenn Bender, and Mokaleng brings a time of 3:04.86 and will be seeded sixth. On the women's side, 2019 NCAA Indoor First-Team All-American Destiny Longmire enters the meet as the No.11 seed in the women's long jump. In the women's 100 hurdles, senior Brittney Trought earned her third-consecutive berth to the West Regional.

Senior Fellan McGuigan earned his fourth qualification in four years for the regional meet in the men's hammer throw, entering the meet as the No.25 seed with a throw of 63.63m (208-9).

Several Horned Frogs qualified for the meet for the first time of their careers. Hope Glenn earned a spot in the women's 100m with a time of 11.57 and Lily Beckford qualified for the 400m with a time of 52.71.
