Tolle’s Career Night Leads TCU Past Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. Payton Tolle's career-night in his home state led No. 18 TCU to a 1-0 win over Oklahoma State Friday night at O'Brate Stadium. Tolle fanned a career-high 15 batters in tossing a complete-game shutout.

The Rundown
Payton Tolle (2-1) was masterful in recording his first complete game shutout in a TCU uniform. The junior left-hander allowed five hits, walked three and struck out a career-high 15 batters. He never faced more than four batters in an inning, twice getting double play balls to eliminate base runners. He struck out multiple batters in five innings. No Cowboy hitter advanced to third in the contest.

TCU scored the game's lone run in the second. Chase Brunson worked a lead-off walk. Two miscues on sacrifice attempts loaded the bases. Anthony Silva gave the Frogs a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly.

Tolle allowed a base runner in six of nine innings. He stranded a runner on second in the second after a two out base hit was followed by a stolen base. His fourth strikeout of the game ended the inning. Another two out hit followed by a walk had two on in the third, but another strikeout ended the threat.

Oklahoma State's best chance to tie the game came in the sixth after a lead-off double was followed by a walk. Tolle got the Cowboys' leading hitter Aidan Meola to ground into what was half a step away from being a triple play. As it was, the play erased the two lead runners and a lazy pop fly ended the inning.

Tolle allowed just two base runners in the final three innings, tallying five strikeouts to close out the game.
