GoFrogs: TCU Women's Tennis Sweeps UTSA in Season Opener

Fort Worth:
The TCU Horned Frogs swept the UTSA Roadrunners 7-0 in their first match of the spring season on Friday only dropping one set at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Due to UTSA playing just five players, TCU only needed one win in doubles play to earned the first point of the match.

On the No. 2 court, sophomore Helena Narmont and freshman Yu-Chin Tsai recorded a 6-3 victory to clinched the first point of the match.

In singles only five courts saw action giving the Frogs a 2-0 early lead. Tsai, the freshman from Taiwan finished her singles match in straight sets defeating UTSA's Magda Tuells two and one. Sophomore Jade Otway defeated the Roadrunners Fatima Gutierrez two and three for the Frogs' match clinching point.

Sophomore Helena Narmont knocked off Eva Beyebach two and three for TCU's fifth point as a team. Destinee Martins dropped her first set of the match 1-6. She flipped the momentum in favor of the Frogs winning the next two matches 6–2, 6-3.

The first set of Mercedes Aristegui's singles match went the distance into a tiebreaker. She battled Aleksandra Zlatarova of UTSA scoring seven straight points to win the tiebreaker and the set. She completed the sweep for the Horned Frogs in the second set 6-4.

This marks the ninth straight time in head coach Lee Taylor Walker's tenure the Frogs have started the season with a win. "Great to get the season started with this crew," Walker said. "Only a few first match nerves here and there, but overall the ladies played a great match with confidence and clarity. Looking forward to keeping the momentum rolling into tomorrow."
