GoFrogs: TCU Falls in Five to West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – TCU fell in five sets to West Virginia on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.

Audrey Nalls posted a season-best 22 kills and a career-best 18 digs in the loss. Taylor Raiola also added a season-best 17 kills and 21 digs for her first double-double of the season.

The Rundown
A kill from Audrey Nalls got the Frogs started and TCU led the majority of the first set. Taylor Raiola landed a huge kill to put TCU up 20-15 and forced a West Virginia timeout. The Mountaineers began to climb back and eventually tied the set at 21-all. TCU continued to battle, and tied at 28, a service error from the Mountaineers and another kill by Nalls clinched the 30-28 set one win.

The second set went back-and-forth to start, but West Virginia began to pull away as the Mountaineers took a 20-17 lead. Back-to-back kills from Raiola tied the match up at 21-21 and the match continued to be an even battle until two TCU attack errors gave West Virginia the 34-32 set win.

TCU responded well in the third set. Trailing 5-4, the Frogs went on a 7-1 scoring run to take an 11-6 lead. Another Raiola kill forced a West Virginia timeout and put TCU up 18-9. The Frogs continued to control the remainder of the third set and a kill from Brianna Green won the set TCU, 25-16.

The Mountaineers came out swinging in the fourth set and jumped out to a 16-9 lead. TCU responded with a 9-2 scoring run, highlighted by three kills from Nalls, and tied the contest up at 18-all. The set was even at 20-all, but West Virginia outscored the Frogs 5-1 to close the set and tie the match up 2-2.

Blocks from Green and Nalls propelled the Frogs to a quick 5-3 lead in the fifth set, but the Mountaineers went on a 3-0 scoring run to take the 6-5 lead. A kill from Green tied the contest up at 6-all, but WVU began to pull away once again. The Frogs were able to pull within two points on two separate occasions, but West Virginia never let up and won the fifth set 15-11.
