GoFrogs: TCU Bounces Back Against Bearcats with 3-0 Sweep

FORT WORTH - The Horned Frogs bounced back against the Cincinnati Bearcats with a 3-0 match sweep on Saturday night at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.

Jalyn Gibson led the team with 16 kills on a .469 hitting percentage and Sarah Sylvester posted nine blocks in the win.

The Rundown
The Frogs trailed initially in the early portion of the first set, but a Melanie Parra kill at the 7-7 point gave TCU its first lead of the match. A kill from Brianna Green gave TCU a 14-9 lead as the Frogs never led by less than four points throughout the rest of the set.

A block by Sarah Sylvester and Melanie Parra put the Frogs up 17-11. Sylvester tallied three of her nine blocks in the first set as the Frog defense held the Bearcats to a .032 hitting percentage in the first frame. TCU's offense continued to shine in the first set with a match-best .444 hitting percentage. A kill by Jalyn Gibson closed the set 25-19.

Tied at 2-2 to start, TCU began to pull away and led the entirety of the second set. Highlighted by two of Sylvester's blocks, the Frogs went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 12-5 lead.

Another five-point scoring run by the Frogs gave TCU a commanding 10-point lead over the Bearcats at 23-13. Kills by Sylvester and Gibson clinched the set over the Bearcats 25-14, giving the Frogs a 2-0 match lead into the third set.

TCU started the third set on a 4-0 scoring run, putting the Frogs in a strong position to sweep the match. TCU recorded four scoring runs in the third set, maintaining their lead throughout the final frame.

The Horned Frogs closed out the third set on a 5-0 scoring run with kills from Sylvester and Julia Adams highlighting the stretch. TCU held the Bearcats to just a -.031 hitting percentage in the final set.

Gibson hit .469 in the match, leading TCU in kills (16) and points (18). Having another stellar day defensively, Sylvester posted a team-leading nine blocks with three kills.
