NAPA, Calif. – The course played tougher on day two, but so, too, did TCU.
The Horned Frogs held on to a tie for seventh following round two of the Chevron Silverado Showdown, shooting a nine-over 297 on Tuesday at Silverado Resort and Spa.
TCU is knotted with No. 16 Oregon at plus-15 (591) ahead of Wednesday's final 18 holes. Tournament leader USC (-3, 573) is the lone school in the 16-team field under par. No school finished below par on Tuesday. The Horned Frogs trail No. 27 San Jose State by just two strokes for a spot in the top-five.
Entering round three, TCU leads six schools that cracked the top-50 of the Scoreboard team rankings, including No. 4 UCLA, No. 25 California and No. 31 Washington.
A trio of Frogs are featured in the top-half of the individual leaderboard.
Kirstin Angosta jumped four places from 25th and into a tie for 21st. The freshman finished one-over (73) for the second consecutive day. Angosta is third out of 15 competing Big 12 golfers. Originally from Las Vegas, Angosta finished the back nine one under on Tuesday.
Lois Lau matched Angosta's second round score and is one stroke back at plus-three (147). She is tied for 25th. Lau bagged a team-high five birdies, three of which came on the front nine.
Meagan Winans gave TCU three golfers in the top-35 ahead of moving day. Winans, one of three golfers to start all nine of TCU's tournaments this season, is plus-four after shooting a three-over 75 in round two. She is tied with Lau for the team-lead in total tournament birdies with seven.
Sofia Barroso Sa is tied for 43rd at six-over (150). Barroso Sa was plus-four in round two but played under-par golf over her final 10 holes.
Sofie Dimitrova birdied 17 and 18 to enter the final round at seven-over and tied for 55th.
The final round commences with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start. TCU will tee off on holes five through nine and is paired with San Jose State, sixth-place Texas and Oregon.
