GoFrogs: TCU Wins the Battle in the Fort

FORT WORTH – TCU triathlon took home its second win of the season, finishing first at the Battle in the Fort Triathlon with 170 points on Sunday morning at Marine Creek.

The Horned Frogs edged out Arizona State, who won its seventh consecutive National Championship in 2022, by two points to close out the program's first home event.

"I'm incredibly proud of the way our team came together today to fight for each spot," said head coach Jenny Garrison. "Their passion for each other, the sport and TCU is palpable. It is so exciting to be a part of it."

Sophomore Jenna Buchanan led the charge for the Horned Frogs in today's race, placing fifth overall on the leaderboard. Buchanan posted the third-fastest run time (19:11) out of the entire field during her dominant performance. She ended the race with 38 points, the most out of any Horned Frog for the day.

Fellow sophomore Maria Coral picked up right where she left off, placing sixth overall. Coral posted the fifth-best bike time of the day (27.40) en route to finishing sixth. Sophomore Ani Veltcheva also ran an impressive race as she finished eighth overall. Veltcheva had the best time on the bike today for the Horned Frogs, posting a time of 27.22 which was second in the field.

Sara Gimena shined once again, finishing ninth in the field, and posting another top-10 finish. Her swim time of 11:05 was the second-best for TCU in today's race. Elena Viejo was the last Horned Frog to score for the team, adding 26 points of her own to push TCU to the 170-point mark on the leaderboard.

Well, that must have been some sort of "eye opener" for Arizona State, who has won the last seven National Championships. To get beat by a first year program full of freshmen and sophomores must have been a helluva thing!
