TCU Tennis Climbs in Rankings

The TCU men's and women's tennis teams both jumped into the top 20 in the latest ITA rankings.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Following a successful ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the TCU men's and women's tennis programs received a boost in the ITA rankings with the men checking in at No. 18 and the women jumping up to No. 20.

Both Horned Frogs programs are ranked in the top-20 in the same week for the first time since 2005 and were the largest rises of the week in the national rankings. The men's program jumped 19 spots from No. 37 to No. 18, while the women's program went up 21 spots from No. 41 to No. 20. The two programs are also one of 12 schools in the country with both the men's and women's teams ranked in the top-20.

The men's program had a memorable weekend in College Station with an upset of No. 10 Texas A&M in the opening round of the Kick-Off for their first victory over the Aggies since 2006 and first top-10 win under the helm of head coach David Roditi.

TCU was able to continue their winning ways in the second round by defeating No. 45 LSU for a berth into the 2015 National Indoor Championships for the first time since 2001.

The women's program also had a few upsets of their own, with the Frogs opening competition with a 4-0 blanking of No. 35 Houston in the first round of the Kick-Off.

The victories would keep coming for the team under the leadership of first-year head coach Lee Taylor Walker with the upending of No. 11 Texas A&M, 4-2, to earn the team a spot in the 2015 ITA National Indoor Championships for the first time since 2006.

Before heading to the indoor national championships, the women's team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Alabama on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m., with the men's team welcoming New Mexico for a home match on Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m., before traveling to Tulsa for a match on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
