GoFrogs: TCU Takes Game 1 of Doubleheader With 9-2 victory
FORT WORTH – TCU scored four runs in the second and never looked back en route to a 9-2 victory over Liberty in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader at Lupton Stadium. Charles King pitched six innings of relief. Conner Shepherd and Elijah Nunez each tallied two RBIs.

The Rundown
TCU opened the scoring in the second, scoring four times on three hits. With the bases loaded, Conner Shepherd worked an 11-pitch walk to make it a 1-0 game. Elijah Nunez came through with a two-out single up the middle to drive in two more. An errant throw allowed another run to score for a 4-0 lead.

Liberty got on the board in the third. The first two Flames reached and were in scoring position with nobody out. Russell Smith limited the damage to just one two-out run, ultimately leaving the bases loaded.

The Horned Frogs picked up some insurance runs late in the game. In the sixth, back-to-back, two-out doubles from Phillip Sikes and Conner Shepherd made it a 5-1 game.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Gene Wood reached on a fielder's choice to drive in one run. Another errant throw allowed the second run of the frame to score. Brayden Taylor doubled home the third run for an 8-1 lead. Tommy Sacco scored on a Luke Boyers sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for TCU.

Russell Smith started for the Frogs and allowed a run on five hits. He struck out six and walked two in the no-decision. Charles King (1-1) picked up the win in relief after allowing a run on three hits with five strikeouts. The lone blemish was a lead-off home run in the eighth.

5 – TCU scored five of its nine runs with two outs.

Notes:
• The TCU pitching staff recorded double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time this season. Russell Smith and Charles King combined to strike out 11.
• TCU outhit its opponent for the third time this season.
• TCU tallied double digit hits for the second time this season.
• TCU played flawless defense for the fourth straight game.
Elijah Nunez tallied his second career multi-hit game and his first career multi-RBI game.
Luke Boyers and Hunter Wolfe have reached safely in all six games.
