Horned Frogs open the 2010 campaign versus No. 22 Oregon State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football team is seventh in the preseason USA Today coaches' poll, marking its highest preseason ranking since 1956 when it was also seventh. The Horned Frogs return 16 starters from last year's 12-1 team which made its first BCS appearance and closed the season ranked sixth. TCU has three top-10 final rankings in the last five seasons.

TCU opens the 2010 campaign versus No. 22 Oregon State on Sept. 4 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The game will be televised on ESPN.

It's the sixth time since 2000 that TCU has been ranked in the preseason. Last year's No. 17 preseason ranking was TCU's highest appearance in a preseason poll since 1960, when it was 11th. The previous four occasions saw the Horned Frogs no higher than 20th in a preseason poll.

TCU's 53-11 (.828) record since 2005 ranks as the sixth-best mark in the nation. The Horned Frogs have won at least 10 games six times in the last eight seasons, including five campaigns with at least 11 victories.

"highest preseason ranking since 1956"

Sure hope there are no pitfalls like the "Hurricane Game" that the '56 team encountered, full of bad weather and bad officiating. It killed the high hopes that team had, but they rallied and still made the rankings and Cotton Bowl. Frogs are just one point back of V.T. for #6.
