OMAHA, Neb. -- A memorable 2014 campaign with a Big 12 championship and a second College World Series appearance in the last five seasons came to a close as TCU fell to Ole Miss, 6-4, Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park.

Will Allen and Sikes Orvis both had three hits and combined for five RBIs to lead the Rebels (48-20). Kevin Cron and Boomer White both had two hits for TCU, combining for four of the Horned Frogs' five hits on the night. Cron's sixth homer of the season, leading off the bottom of the fifth inning, tied the game at 4-4.

The Horned Frogs (48-18) twice battled back from a pair of deficits to even the game.

Trailing 5-4, TCU threatened in the bottom of the eighth. Jerrick Suiter drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second by Garrett Crain. White was then walked intentionally. One out later, Aaron Greenwood came on to face Keaton Jones. A double steal put runners on second and third. However, Greenwood retired Jones on a grounder to short to end the inning.

Ole Miss added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Orvis to provide the final margin.

After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the third, TCU evened the game in the bottom of the fourth. Cron singled up the middle to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a walk to Suiter. After a fielder's choice put runners on first and third with one out, White ripped a double down the left field line to score Cron.

Consecutive walks by Dylan Fitzgerald and Jones forced in Crain to cut the TCU deficit to 3-2 and load the bases. One out later, Cody Jones drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to score White and tie the game. Derek Odell then flew out to deep right center to end the inning.

Ole Miss regained a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. With one out, back-to-back walks put runners on first and second. Orvis then delivered a two-out single to right to plate Auston Bousfield.

The Horned Frogs answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth when Cron led off the inning with his homer to left. It was just the second home run in 10 games of this year's CWS.

Ole Miss went back on top 5-4 in the top of the seventh. Bousfield was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came around to score after consecutive singles by Austin Anderson and Allen. The Horned Frogs escaped further damage as Travis Evans entered the game and struck out Orvis before being relieved by Trey Teakell, who recorded the final two outs of the inning.

Both starting pitchers, TCU's Tyler Alexander and Ole Miss' Sam Smith, went 3 1/3 innings. The Horned Frogs used five pitchers on the night with Jordan Kipper (8-3) taking the loss. Josh Laxer (3-2), the second of four Ole Miss pitchers, went 2 2/3 innings in relief to earn the win for the Rebels. The only hit he surrendered was Cron's homer.

Ole Miss took its 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. J.B. Woodman led off with a double and was sacrificed to third by Austin Knight. Woodman then scored on a single up the middle by Braxton Lee. After a hit-by-pitch, a two-run double to right center by Allen made it a 3-0 game.

TCU is one of just 10 programs nationally to reach the College World Series at least twice in the last five seasons. The Horned Frogs' 48 victories tied for the second most in program history.
