GoFrogs: TCU Rallies Past Texas; Claims Tournament Title

ROUND ROCK, Texas –
TCU scored a pair of second half goals to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and lock up a 2-1 win over Texas to take home its first-ever Big 12 Tournament title. Messiah Bright and Camryn Lancaster scored for TCU. Lauren Kellett made six saves in the win. Bright was named the Offensive Most Outstanding Player, while Jenna Winebrenner was named the Defensive MOP.

The Rundown
A very evenly matched game saw Texas hold a slim 8-6 shot advantage after the first half of play. The Longhorns had the more dangerous looks as they cashed in on a shot from distance in the 39th minute to open up the scoring. Lauren Kellett made two fantastic saves in the final three minutes of the half to keep the deficit at one.

After weathering an early push by Texas in the opening minutes of the second half that saw Kellett make another couple saves, TCU found its possession game.

The hard work was finally rewarded in the 60th minute when Messiah Bright found the back of the net with the equalizer. Grace Collins got the play rolling as she found Chaylyn Hubbard with some room to run. Hubbard carried the ball into the 18 and fed an open Bright for the game-tying goal.

Jenna Winebrenner came up huge in the 79th minute as she blocked a shot just in front of the goal mouth to keep the game tied. Minutes later, the Frogs tallied the game winner.

Bright found Collins down low to the right of the goal post. She tapped the ball towards the middle of the six and a failure to corral the cross by the Texas goalkeeper left Camryn Lancaster with an open net to shot at for the game-winner.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On coming from behind

"I thought we did a really good job of finding Messiah and she did a really good job of penetrating with the ball and sliding it in the goal. I thought we had the momentum after the goal and were able to find another goal and win the championship."

On the second half

"I think we followed the game plan a little bit better. We wanted to go outside a bit more. They did a good job of clogging up the middle and we wanted to go around them. I thought we did a really good job of that."

On Texas shooting from distance
"If that's all we are going to give up, that's awesome. We have the best goalkeeper in the league so if they want to shoot from distance, than have at it."
