ABILENE, Texas – TCU scored five runs in each of the first two innings and powered its way to a 14-3, seven inning victory at Abilene Christian on Tuesday night. Gray Rodgers led the offensive charge with three hits and four RBIs.
The Rundown
Elijah Nunez led the game off with a home run and the Frogs were off and running. Tommy Sacco doubled home the second run. Luke Boyers drew a bases-loaded walk and Logan Maxwell grounded out to push the lead to four. An errant throw allowed Bobby Goodloe to score the fifth run of the inning.
TCU put up another five spot in the second, all with two outs in the inning. Gray Rodgers started the two out barrage with a two-run home run to center. Tommy Sacco followed with a home run. Boyers doubled home Goodloe and scored on a Maxwell base hit for a 10-0 lead.
The teams traded two spots in the third. Rodgers singled home two more runs and Abilene Christian picked up a two run home run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 12-2 game.
After another solo home run by the Wildcats in the fourth, TCU responded with two in the fifth to restore its double-digit lead. Sacco reached on an error to drive in the first run of the inning and Boyers hit a sacrifice fly to make it 14-3.
Caedmon Parker (1-0) did a solid job in his first career start. The freshman allowed two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out three. Augie Mihlbauer turned in two solid innings of relief. He allowed a run on one hit, walked one and struck out four. Tommy Vail and Luke Savage pitched the final two innings, combining to strike out five.
