TCU Places Two on All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team

Brun, Gad honored by conference

FORT WORTH — TCU placed two student-athletes on the All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team released Wednesday by the conference office, with both senior Pontus Gad and sophomore Julien Brun collecting honors.

The Horned Frogs were one of only three teams to have two golfers included on the 10-man list along with Oklahoma State and Texas, which totaled three honorees each.

Brun was named all-conference for the second straight year after collecting both All-Mountain West and MW Freshman of the Year recognition in 2012. He currently leads the Big 12 this season in individual stroke average with a figure of 70.45 and also is on pace to break his own school record set last year. Brun is listed as high as No. 3 nationally in the latest Golfstat Cup rankings and has won three tournament titles this season.

Gad, who is experiencing a breakout year for TCU as a senior, claimed the first all-conference award of his Frog career. He owns a current season stroke average of 71.85, which is nearly 2.5 strokes better than his best previous effort, while he is ranked as high as No. 55 nationally in the Golfstat Cup. Six of Gad’s eight career top-20 individual finishes have come this season, including a 10th-place effort during last week’s Big 12 Championship that marked his best ever in a conference tournament.

TCU is off the next two weeks from competition before making an expected trip to one of six NCAA Regionals May 16 through 18. The Frogs will learn the destination for their 24th consecutive regional appearance next Monday during a live online selection show that will air on NCAA.com starting at 8 p.m.
