TCU Hosts Cyclones Saturday on Senior Day

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's basketball program will close its regular season Saturday with a senior day showdown versus No. 17 Iowa State. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. CT inside Wilkerson-Greines AC.

The Opponent
No. 17 Iowa State comes into Saturday with a 21-8 overall record, including an 11-6 mark in league play after dropping nationally ranked Oklahoma in its last outing, 77-70. Against the Sooners, the Cyclones overcame a 21-point deficit to record their seventh win against a ranked opponent on the season. Georges Niang led the way, scoring 23 points on 8-of-14 from the field, while Monte' Morris added 19 in the win. On the season, Niang is averaging 15.1 points per game and 5.4 boards. Bryce Dejean-Jones has also been solid, averaging 11.3 points per game.
 
The Series
The Horned Frogs and Cyclones will meet for only the 12th time in program history Saturday. Iowa State leads the all-time series at 6-5 after defeating TCU earlier this year, 83-66. TCU had won five-straight in the series before dropping the last five. The Purple and White's last victory at home came in a 72-63 decision during the 1981 season.
 
One Last Run
TCU senior's Kyan Anderson, Amric Fields and Trey Zeigler will put the finishing touches on their home careers Saturday. The trio will leave Fort Worth as one of the most successful senior classes in school history, having played in a combined 268 games, while making 179 career starts. The trio helped usher TCU into the Big 12 Conference and record memorable wins over Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
 
Planes, Trains & Buses
During TCU's recent trips to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, the Frogs have faced some challenges with their travel due to inclement weather. It took TCU almost 8 hours to get to Norman by train. Following its trip to Stillwater Wednesday, the Frogs left Oklahoma State around 10:30 p.m. and didn't arrive home until after 4:00 a.m.
 
The Last Three Home Games
TCU, who has won three-straight home league games, is shooting 50 percent from the field in its last three outings at home against Oklahoma State, K-State and Texas Tech, while outscoring the three combined by an average of 15.3 points. In all, the Purple and White have limited the trio to only 20.5 percent from behind the arc and 37.7 percent from the floor during the stretch.
 
Zeigler Honored By Big 12 Conference
Senior Trey Zeigler was honored Monday as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Zeigler helped the Horned Frogs win their third straight conference home game, posting 15 points and four rebounds in a win over Texas Tech. The senior guard was 6-of-11 (.545) from the field against the Red Raiders. He came back and had another strong outing at Oklahoma, scoring 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting while recording a season-high five assists. Zeigler averaged 15.5 points and shot 52.2 percent in two contests. He had scored 15 points or more in three straight outings prior to OSU, shooting 50 percent or higher each time.
 
1,000-Point Club
Kyan Anderson, Amric Fields and Trey Zeigler have now totaled a 1,000 points in their careers. Anderson currently ranks No. 6 on TCU's all-time list with 1,589 points, while Zeigler has totaled 1,432 between stops at Central Michigan, TCU and Pitt. After his 14-point outing at Oklahoma State, Fields now has 1,003 points during his career.
 
The Dynamic Trio
Heading into Saturday, senior's Kyan Anderson, Amric Fields and Trey Zeigler have formed quite the tandem during conference play on the offensive end. The trio has scored 550 of TCU's 1,069 points, which is 51.4 percent of the Purple and White's scoring in league play. At Oklahoma State, the three scored 47 of TCU's 70 points.
 
Cleaning Up The Glass On The Offensive End
In the last 12 games combined, the Frogs have out-rebounded their opponent in offensive rebounds by a combined 165-133. The Frogs, who rank No. 16 in the NCAA in offensive boards a game, have now grabbed 15 or more offensive boards in a game 10 times.
 
Storylines = Victory
Several numbers have popped out on the stat page this season in regards to TCU having success in the win column. The Frogs are 10-3 when scoring 70 or more points in a game. TCU is also 15-4 overall when out-rebounding its opponents and has outshot its opponent percentage wise in all 17 victories.
 
Staggering D
Heading into Saturday, TCU has put up some eye-popping numbers nationally on the defensive end of the court. The Frogs rank in the top-30 in the NCAA in blocks per game (No. 17), field goal percentage defense (No. 27) and total blocks (No. 16).

• TCU was receiving votes last month in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
• The last time TCU was receiving votes in February came during the 1998-99 campaign.
• TCU is 31-6 when leading at the half under head coach Trent Johnson.
• TCU has now held 30 opponents to 59 points or less under Trent Johnson.
• In its last three home outings, TCU has held Oklahoma State, Kansas State & Texas Tech to 55 points or below.
• TCU has out-rebounded its opposition 19 times this season.

Kyan Anderson is No. 6 all-time in scoring in program history with 1,589 points.

• Anderson moved into No. 1 all-time in program history in steals against Oklahoma State with now 167.
Kenrich Williams has scored in double-figures in 14 of the 30 games this season.
• Williams had his second double-double of the season against Texas Tech with 10 points, 16 rebounds.
• Williams had a career-high 16 rebounds against Texas Tech.
Trey Zeigler has scored in double-figures in 12 Big 12 games this year after scoring 10 at Oklahoma State.
Amric Fields became the 33rd player in school history reach the 1,000-point club with 14 at OSU.
