GoFrogs: TCU Falls to UCF, 79-77
FORT WORTH - TCU dropped its season finale, 79-77, to UCF Saturday at Schollmaier Arena.

The game saw 14 ties and 17 lead changes with seven of those lead changes in the final four minutes and 15 seconds of the game.

The Horned Frogs (20-11, 9-9) led by as many as five, 56-51, after a bucket by JaKobe Coles with 12:02 remaining. The Knights (16-14, 7-11) took their first lead since two minutes into the second half on a free throw by Jaylin Sellers with 4:15 left to play.

It remained a one-possession game until the Knights' Darius Johnson connected on two free throws to put UCF ahead 78-74 with 15 seconds left. Johnson scored 33 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three and was 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

An Emanuel Miller layup and free throw brought TCU back to life, down 78-77 with 4.1 to play. After a missed UCF free throw, TCU had the ball, trailing 79-77, with 2.9 seconds to play. Micah Peavy inbounded the ball from the other end of the court to Miller who shot a guarded 15-footer that missed.

Jameer Nelson Jr. hit several big 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points on a season-high four threes on five attempts. Coles finished with 14 points and Miller scored 11 of his 13 in the second half.

Chuck O'Bannon Jr. provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on 2-of-4 shooting from three.

TCU earned the No. 8 seed in the Phillips 66 Big 23 Championship and will face No. 9 seed Oklahoma on Wednesday at 2 p.m. inside the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.

  • Nelson Jr. had a team-high four steals, his most in 11 games.
  • JaKobe Coles scored in double-figures for the first time in four games with 14 points.
  • Emanuel Miller had 11 of his 13 points in the second half. He scored in double figures for the 19th consecutive game and is the only player in the conference to score at least 10 points in every Big 12 game.
  • Miller moved up to 17th in all-time scoring at TCU with 1,242 points. He passed Marquise Gainous.
  • Chuck O'Bannon Jr. scored in double-figure for the second-straight game with 11 points on 2-of-4 shooting from three.
  • O'Bannon Jr. and Micah Peavy tied for the team-lead with four assists each which was a season-high for O'Bannon.
  • Ernest Udeh Jr. had a team-high nine rebounds. He missed the previous five games due to a lower left leg injury.
