NEW YORK - TCU could not overcome its offensive struggles in a 58-44 loss to Texas in the semifinals of the NIT at Madison Square Garden.

Senior Alex Robinson and junior Desmond Bane were the only two Horned Frogs in double-figures with 12 and 11 points respectively. Freshman Kevin Samuel pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and recorded a block for the 20th consecutive game.

TCU (23-14) made four of its first six shots and led 8-5 after a thunderous dunk by Kevin Samuel, but he rest of the half belonged to Texas (20-16). The Longhorns held the Frogs to just three field goals in the last 16 minutes and 28 percent shooting (7-of-25) in the half. Texas shot 40.6 percent and led 31-17 at halftime.

Bane hit TCU's first 3-pointer of the game to bring the Frogs to within eight points, 36-28, with 13:52 to play. A layup by Noi brought TCU to within five points, 33-28, with 11:24 remaining. It was the closest the Frogs would get as the Longhorns held TCU to just three makes in its final 19 shot attempts.

TCU shot a season-low 28.3 percent from the field, while Texas was 42.6 percent.

Team Notes
- TCU finished the season with a 23-14 record and totaled 68 wins over the past three seasons, the most in a three-season span since the 1997-2000 seasons when TCU recorded 70 wins.
- Tuesday's game marked TCU's second NIT semifinals appearance in three seasons. TCU won the NIT Championship in 2017.
- Additionally, the matchup marked the 11th time that members of the same conference have faced off at Madison Square Garden in the NIT, last occurring 2000 when Wake Forest and NC State of the ACC played each other in the semifinals.
- TCU fell to 17-7 all-time in the NIT, ending a streak of eight consecutive wins in the NIT. Jamie Dixon dropped to 8-2 in the NIT and 25-15 in postseason play overall as a head coach.
- TCU dropped to 68-112 all-time and 1-7 in neutral site games against Texas. The loss also ended a streak of three consecutive wins over the Longhorns.
- Jamie Dixon as a head coach fell to 6-3 all-time against the Longhorns.
- TCU fell to 2-1 all-time in Madison Square Garden, and Jamie Dixon as a head coach fell to 28-16 in "The World's Most Famous Arena."
- The Horned Frogs under Dixon dropped to 13-5 in neutral site games.
- The Frogs were held to just 44 points, the fewest scored in a postseason game in school history. It was TCU's lowest scoring output since Feb. 13, 2016 when West Virginia held TCU to just 42 points in 73-42 loss in Morgantown.
- TCU's 17 first half points were the fewest in a half in the three years under Jamie Dixon. The Frogs' previous low this season was 23 second half points against Florida on Jan. 26.
- Texas held TCU to season-lows in field goals (17), field goal percentage (28.3 percent), and assists (7). TCU's field goal percentage and assist total were the lowest in the Jamie Dixon era, and its 17 field goals were the fewest in a game since Jan. 21, 2017 against Baylor.

Individual Notes
- Alex Robinson scored a team-high 12 points, finishing his career in 19th place on TCU's all-time scoring list with 1,202 career points.
- Robinson also added an assist, giving him 672 in his career at TCU, the most in program history.
- Desmond Bane joined Robinson in double-figures with 11 points and added eight rebounds.
- Bane played a team-high 37 minutes, giving him a total of 1,315 minutes played this season, passing Alex Robinson's 1,283 minutes played during the 2016-17 season as the most in school history.
- Kouat Noi scored seven points and made one of TCU's four 3-pointers. He finished the season making a three in 28 of his 31 games played.
- Noi added a team-high two steals.
- JD Miller finished his career at TCU as the all-time leader in games played at 140 contests.
- Miller also finished 21st on TCU's all-time scoring list with 1,153 career points.
- Kevin Samuel pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Two of his three highest rebound totals against conference opponents came against the Longhorns, as he tied his season high with 13 rebounds on Jan. 23 at home against Texas and pulled down 12 rebounds at Texas Tech on Jan. 28.
- Samuel recorded his sixth double-digit rebounding effort of the year.
- Samuel finished the season 121-for-182 (66.4 percent) from the floor this season, the second best field goal percentage in a season in school history.
- Samuel added a block, giving him at least one blocked shot in 20 consecutive games.
