GoFrogs: TCU Exits NCAA Individual Tournament

CHAMPAIGN, Ill.
– The 2022 season has come to a close for TCU Men's Tennis as Luc Fomba and Juan Carlos Aguilar were eliminated from the NCAA Singles Tournament and Fomba/Jake Fearnley were knocked out of the NCAA Doubles Tournament on Tuesday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois.

No. 29 Ronnie Hohmann (LSU) def. No. 16 Juan Carlos Aguilar (TCU): 5-7, 6-4, 6-2
Aguilar suffered a three-set loss in his second round match against LSU's Ronnie Hohmann. Aguilar won eight of nine games throughout the first and second sets to take a 7-5, 4-1 lead only for Hohmann to bounce back with a run of his own, taking the second set, 6-4, before winning the final set, 6-2, on a hard-fought deuce point.

The match point was won on deuce point, a rarity against Aguilar. He finished the tournament winning 9/12 deuce points, going 8-2 in his first round match and finishing the second round, 3-1. Aguilar won the final two games of the first set at deuce point.

He ends his college career as a four-time All-American: 2022 (singles), 2021 (doubles), 2019 (doubles) and 2018 (doubles).

No. 38 Henry von der Schulenburg (Harvard) def. No. 12 Luc Fomba: 6-4, 7-6(5)
Fomba suffered a break in his first service game and couldn't break back, falling 6-4 in the first set. After holding twice at deuce point in the second set, it was Fomba who found the opening break, going in front, 5-3, only to be broken back in the next game, leading to a tiebreak. In the tiebreaker set, Fomba erased a 2-4 lead to tie it back at 5-5 before Schulenburg won the next two points to take the match.

Fomba exited the singles tournament after reaching the second round for the second year in a row. He earned his second Singles All-American honor by being named a Top 16 seed.

No. 33 Charles Bertimon/Maxence Bertimon (VCU) def, No. 1 Luc Fomba / Jake Fearnley: 6-3, 2-6, 1-0(10-7)
Fomba and Fearnley only lost one service game throughout their match (7/8) but ultimately fell in a super set tiebreaker to end their NCAA Doubles Tournament. They both have earned All-American honors in doubles this season, the second honor for Fomba (also '21) and the first for Fearnley.
