GoFrogs: TCU Drops Nail-Biter at #11 Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – Down by as many as 15 in the second half, the TCU women's basketball team battled back to within a single point but No. 11 Texas was able to hold on to win a nail-biter, 73-67, on Saturday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center.

Seniors Jordan Moore and Amy Okonkwo combined for 38 points as the Horned Frogs (12-5, 2-4 Big 12) dropped their closest decision ever to the Longhorns (15-3, 5-1) in Austin.

Moore led all players with 20 points, while Okonkwo finished with 18 and junior Jayde Woods poured in a season-high 12.

THE RUNDOWN
TCU came out strong in the early goings of the game, taking an 18-15 lead after the first quarter after Yummy Morris came off the bench to score the final five points of the frame.

The Longhorns answered back in the second quarter, however, using a 13-2 run at the end of the half to take a 33-26 advantage into the locker room.

Texas picked up right where it left off after the break, ballooning its lead to as many as 15 points in the third quarter.

The Frogs continued to fight though, clawing their way back to within a single point with 3:27 remaining in the game after a 3-pointer by Okonkwo.

The remainder of the game was a back-and-forth battle with TCU keeping it a one-possession game as late as the 40-second mark of the final quarter. Texas, however, was able to get a critical steal and hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to squeak out the win.

STAT OF THE GAME
34 – TCU became just the second team this season to out-rebound Texas, winning the battle on the boards, 34-33. The only other team to do so was Mississippi State on Dec. 2. The Longhorns entered the contest third in the NCAA with a rebound margin of +13.9.

The Horned Frogs also outscored Texas in points in the paint, 34-32, joining Mississippi State and Kansas State as the only teams to do so this season.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
TCU Head Coach Raegan Pebley
"I definitely see growth in our team. We might be disappointed but we are not discouraged. That is growth in our team. We can self-evaluate and take a look at ourselves honestly to see what our best-self looks like, what that means, both individually and collectively, and see how to manufacture that and make sure that is brought every game. I think that is what helps us from game-to-game and what helps us go from a second quarter into a second half and be able to be better. We have worked really hard as a team to become more consistent, tough and gritty. That grit is something that defines our group now more than it ever has."

UP NEXT
TCU will return home to host a nationally-televised contest against Oklahoma at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. The game will be televised on FS1.
