ABILENE, Texas – TCU could not overcome a big first inning from Abilene Christian in an 8-3 loss Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field.
The Rundown
ACU struck for seven runs in the first as it sent 11 men to the plate. The Wildcats opened up a 4-0 lead before the first out was recorded. An error led to two unearned runs in the frame.
TCU cut into the deficit with two in the third. Jack Arther and Sam Myers singled to open the inning. A balk had both runners in scoring position for Anthony Silva, who delivered a base hit up the middle to drive in the runners.
The Frogs looked poised to get back in the game in the fifth as they loaded the bases with nobody out. Luke Boyers singled to make it a 7-3 game, but the Wildcats worked out of the jam without any further damage.
ACU got the run back, taking advantage of a lead-off double. An error in the inning allowed the run to score, pushing the Wildcats advantage to five, 8-3, accounting for the final score.
Braeden Sloan (3-3) started and didn't register an out in allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits and walked two in the loss.
The bullpen did a good job in limiting the Wildcats to just three runs (one earned) on seven hits. Zack Morris, Colt Taylor, Chase Hoover, Hunter Hodges and Jax Traeger combined to strike out nine batters while issuing just two walks.
