TCU Drops Matchup to No. 14 Stanford

Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 23 TCU women's tennis dropped its first match in the month of February and was topped on Saturday afternoon by No. 14 Stanford, 7-0, at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Horned Frogs (2-2) struggled in doubles action against the Cardinal (3-2), before dropping all of the singles matches. Marie Norris and Olaya Garrido-Rivas battled it out on courts one and three, respectively, and pushed each match to three sets. Garrido-Rivas won her opening frame, but dropped the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3, to No. 66 Krista Hardebeck. Norris bounced back from an opening set loss to No. 30 Taylor Davidson before taking the second set, 6-3. Norris was the final match played and dropped the super tiebreaker, 10-6.

Quotes of the Match
Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker
Opening Statement
“Stanford is a good team and played better in the more critical moments today. Beating a quality team on their home courts takes a toughness and belief that we just aren’t showing right now. We’ve got to step up our training and preparation and really take it to another level on the practice court so that confidence can be there in the critical moments. Nobody cares if ‘it was close,’ if we ‘had chances’ or if a ‘few points here and there.’ That story gets old real quick. At the end of the day we got beat and until that frustrates us enough to lead us to more quantity and quality with practices, it won’t change. Ohio State and Stanford are great teams and programs and so in some ways we are 2-2 with no bad losses and it is early in the season, but we are a top program ourselves and expect better results. Long story short, we have to work harder, get better and it will result in being more clutch under pressure.”
