FORT WORTH – No. 3 TCU pushed across a run in five innings and the pitching trio of Brian Howard, Ryan Burnett and Jake Eissler held No. 16 Oklahoma State to just one run in a 5-1 victory on Sunday. The sweep of the Cowboys is TCU’s second of the season.

The Rundown
TCU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out base hit from Luken Baker. Oklahoma State tied the game in the top of the third on a bloop, two-out single to center. A lead-off home run by Cam Warner in the bottom of the inning put the Frogs back on top to stay.

Ryan Merrill doubled with one out in the fourth and scored on an error by the third baseman. A two-out base knock by Merrill drove in Nolan Brown in the fifth for a 4-1 lead. TCU’s final run scored in the sixth on a base knock from Evan Skoug that allowed Austen Wade to score from second.

Bryan Howard turned in a solid seven innings on the mound. He faced more than four batters in an inning just once and retired the side in three. After a two-out walk in the fifth, the senior retired the last seven batters he faced. Howard improved to 3-2 on the season and registered a season-high nine strikeouts.

Jake Eissler took the mound in the ninth with two and nobody out. He retired all three batters he faced to pick up his first career save.

TCU was a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases over the weekend. Entering Friday’s contest, Oklahoma State had allowed just eight stolen bases on 18 attempts on the season.

Next Up:
With the win, TCU improves to 17-5 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will host UT Rio Grande Valley in a midweek series starting Tuesday. Both contests in the series are slated for 6:30 p.m. starts.
