GoFrogs: TCU Completes Sweep of Kentucky
FORT WORTH – TCU scored five two-out runs in the second inning and never looked back, completing the series sweep with a 10-5 win over Kentucky Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. Gene Wood homered twice in the win for the Horned Frogs.

The Rundown
Back-to-back two out walks to Conner Shepherd and Zach Humphreys opened the door for TCU Six straight Horned Frogs reached and five came around to score. Gray Rodgers singled to put the Frogs on top 1-0. Porter Brown drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 2-0. Tommy Sacco followed with a bases-clearing double for a 5-0 lead.

Phillip Sikes pushed the lead to six, 6-0, after he drove in Zach Humphreys in the fourth.

Kentucky picked up two runs in the fourth on a solo home run and two out bases-loaded single to make it a 6-2 contest.

TCU responded with solo home runs, two from Gene Wood and one from Gray Rodgers, in each of the next three innings to extend the lead to seven, 9-2.

The Wildcats picked up a pair of two out runs in the eighth, but again, the Frogs had an answer in the bottom of the inning. Sacco collected his fourth RBI of the game to drive in Rodgers for a 10-4 lead. Kentucky scored once in the ninth to account for the final score.

Russell Smith made his first start since the 2018 campaign. He retired the first 12 batters he faced. In 4 2/3 innings, the redshirt sophomore allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits. He walked one and fanned five.

Drew Hill tossed three innings in relief, allowing a run on two hits and striking out for. John Kodros recorded the final out of the eighth inning and Harrison Beethe pitched the ninth.

Stat of the Game:
631 – Russell Smith made his first appearance on the mound in 631 days. He last appeared in a contest on May 26, 2018. He missed all of the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the fall of 2018.

• TCU swept a season-opening series for the first time since the 2017 campaign when it swept Penn State.
• TCU hit a trio of home runs in the contest.
• The TCU pitching staff recorded double-digit strikeouts for the second time this season.
• TCU recorded double-digit hits and runs for the first time this season.
Drew Hill, John Kodros and Harrison Beethe all made their TCU debuts on the mound.
Gene Wood hit TCU's first home run of the season. It was his first home run since hitting one against South Carolina on March 26, 2017 when he was at Alabama.
• Wood posted his first career multi-home run game.
• Wood collected his eighth career multi-hit game and his third career multi-RBI contest.
Tommy Sacco tallied his first career multi-RBI contest.
Gray Rodgers hit his first career home run.
• Rodgers notched his second career multi-hit game and his first career multi-RBI contest.
Phillip Sikes posted his second career multi-hit game.

Next Up:
With the series sweep, TCU improves to 3-0 on the young season. The Horned Frogs will wrap up a season-opening four-game homestand on Tuesday night when Abilene Christian comes to town. First pitch against the Wildcats is set for 6:30 p.m.

Great start to the season. Pitching overall very solid, and he got a lot of arms out there to give them game, live action time on the mound. Some of the new skill players with great weekend too. Conner had a great series at third, Sacco at short and like Wood's bat in right. Go Frogs!
