GoFrogs: TCU’s Season Ends with Loss to Utah State
INDIANAPOLIS – TCU's third-straight NCAA Tournament ended with an 88-72 loss in the first round to No. 8 seed Utah State, Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The eighth seeded Horned Frogs (21-13) came out of the gate hot, scoring on their first attempt, a three by Jameer Nelson Jr. TCU led by as many as eight points, 18-10, following a Trevian Tennyson jumper with 13:39 remaining in the half.

A dunk by Kalifa Sakho gave the Aggies (28-6) their first lead of the game, 24-23, with 10:33 to play in the period. There were five lead changes the remainder of the half as the Aggies made eight of their final 10 attempts from the field to lead 43-37 at the break.

After a dunk by Ernest Udeh Jr., TCU cut the deficit to two points less than two minutes into the second half. That was as close as the Frogs would get as the Aggies' lead expanded to as many as 18 points with under seven to play.

TCU was led in scoring by JaKobe Coles with 19 points. Playing in his final game at TCU, Emanuel Miller scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

The hot-shooting Aggies were led by Ian Martinez with 21 points and Isaac Johnson with 19 points. Utah State shot 55 percent from the field, which included 57.1 percent in the second half.

TCU was held to 29.4 percent shooting in the second half and 35.8 percent for the game.

  • TCU fell to 0-3 all-time against Utah State.
  • The Frogs dropped to 7-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Jamie Dixon moved to 14-15 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
  • TCU outrebounded Utah State, 41-30, and fell to 14-7 this season and 129-43 under Dixon when outrebounding its opponent.
  • Utah State shot 55.0 percent from the field, which was the second most by a TCU opponent this season.
Individual Notes
  • Emanuel Miller finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. It was his third double-double of the season and 18th of his career.
  • Miller finished with 1,282 points at TCU, which ranks 16th in program history. He passed Malcolm Johnson on Friday.
  • JaKobe Coles scored 14 of his team-high 19 points in the second half. It was the third-most he's scored in a game this season.
  • Coles was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. It was his third game this season with three or more threes.
