Shorthanded TCU Drops 4-3 Decision at No. 22 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The absence of a three-time All-American and the ITA No. 2 doubles player proved too much to overcome for No. 3 TCU on Thursday.

The Horned Frogs dropped a 4-3 road dual to No. 22 Oklahoma at the Headington Tennis Center.

TCU (14-2, 1-2 Big 12) won the doubles point and claimed straight set singles decisions on courts two and three. Oklahoma swept the bottom-half of singles play and clinched the match in a tiebreaker on one with the dual gridlocked at 3-3.

The Horned Frogs played the match without Jake Fearnley, presently No. 6 in the ITA singles rankings, and Sebastian Gorzny, who has produced a 72-22 career combined record over two seasons in Funky Town.

"Tough loss on the road here," said head coach David Roditi. "We knew it was going to take everything we had. We knew it was a tough situation. Really proud of certain moments. Our doubles, and then for us to come back like that at number two and number three singles, you know what? Left it out there. Most of the guys did. Now, we just rest our bodies, move on. Oklahoma State is going to be as tough or tougher. Time to bounce back. Go Frogs."

TCU dropped back-to-back matches for the first time in three seasons with Thursday's result. The Horned Frogs last lost multiple and/or consecutive Big 12 duals in 2018-19.

Doubles Rundown
The absence of Fearnley and Gorzny forced TCU to dramatically shift its pairings.

Pedro Vives, who is tabbed second in the ITA doubles rankings alongside Gorzny, dropped down to court two to play alongside Jack Pinnington. The 51st-ranked tandem of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted slotted up to one in Gorzny's absence while Tonas Jirousek and Kaj Quirijns played together for the first time ever at three.

Chan and Maxted, who typically slot in at two or three, fell to the Sooners' Baptistie Anselmo and Alex Martinez, 2-6.

Pinnington and Vives claimed a 6-4 decision over Jordan Hasson and Mark Mandlik to even the score. The victory was their first across two matches as partners.

Jirousek and Quirijns clinched the doubles point shortly thereafter via a 6-3 decision over Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki.
