GoFrogs: Pinnington to Return to TCU for Junior Season
FORT WORTH – Jack Pinnington is back for another go-around on the purple courts.
Pinnington, the reigning NCAA Championships Most Outstanding Player, will return for his junior season with defending national champion TCU in 2025.
"I'm very excited to return to college tennis," he said. "I love it. It's exactly what I thought it would be when I made the last-hitch effort to get to college. I definitely want another semester of it, especially after last year. Our team is looking pretty solid. I'm really excited to go back and hopefully do something special with them."
The Londoner took the fall semester off to focus on his professional career. Pinnington ascended nearly 400 places in the ATP rankings after leading TCU to its first NCAA Championship in May. He achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 376 in December.
Pinnington's ascent accelerated this past autumn. He reached the quarterfinals in three ATP Challenger events, highlighted by a semifinal run at the Tiburon Challenger in October. He enjoyed a memorable summer season after hoisting the NCAA's patented gold championship trophy. Pinnington competed in the doubles main draw at The Championships, Wimbledon 2024. He won the M25 Aldershot singles title in August and earned a memorable victory over fellow TCU All-American and world No. 49 Cameron Norrie at the Nottingham Challenger.
"I feel like there's still things in my game I can work on," Pinnington said. "It was great to have a good summer, but at the end of the day, I'm excited to go back to TCU and it's the best thing long-term for my development."
Pinnington's postseason efforts anointed him among the program's legends. He went 6-0 on court one in singles play in TCU's run to NCAA glory. Pinnington rattled off four consecutive straight set victories over ITA top-35 opponents to help book TCU's ticket to the finale. Down a set and a break to the Elliot Spizziri, the nation's No. 1 player, Pinnington rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph that proved to be the decisive moment in TCU's 4-3 triumph over Texas.
He accumulated a 52-19 combined overall record in 2023-24, highlighted by a 35-8 mark in singles. He set a TCU Big 12 era school record and ranked third among all D1 players in singles wins. Pinnington downed 28 ranked players. He was a unanimous All-Big 12 first team selection and received NCAA All-Tournament team honors at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Pinnington, who concluded his sophomore year sixth in the ITA rankings, is one of six returning players on TCU's 2025 roster. He joins a cast featuring NCAA doubles champions Pedro Vives and Lui Maxted and a pair of ITA top-90 singles players in sophomores Duncan Chan and Julian Alonso.
TCU opens the dual season at 3 p.m. on Saturday vs. Abilene Christian at the indoor Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
