GoFrogs: NIVC Semifinals Preview: TCU at Georgia Tech

FORT WORTH -- TCU volleyball heads back on the road to play in the NIVC semifinals against Georgia Tech on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. inside O'Keefe Gymnasium in Atlanta. It is the second NIVC semifinals appearance for TCU in the past three years.

Quick Facts
-TCU is competing in the NIVC for the second time in program history. The only other appearance came in 2017, when the Horned Frogs reached the semifinals
-Julia Adams leads the team with 37 kills through three matches, Katie Clark leads with 23 blocks, adding in 35 kills of her own.
-Clark's 12 blocks against Miami (OH) ties a program record. It was the most blocks in a single match of any Big 12 player this season, tied for the seventh most in the country this season. She followed that with eight blocks in three sets against BGSU.
-TCU finished its first round match with 18.0 blocks as a team, tied for the eighth most in a single match in program history.
-Against Bowling Green, TCU continued to dominate at the net, out-blocking the Falcons 11-4, including eight from Clark and a career-best five from Ashley Waggle.
-Three attackers hit at or above .300: Clark (.429), Waggle (.429) and Audrey Nalls (.300). It was the 4th time this season TCU has accomplished that, 4-0 in such matches.
-TCU hit 53 kills in the Quarterfinal match against Colgate, the most kills in a three-set match since August, 2014.
-TCU advanced to the NIVC semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons.
-In three matches, TCU is out-blocking opponents 35-21, averaging 3.18 blocks/set.
-The Horned Frog defense has been equally strong on the back row, where they average 17.73 digs/set this tournament, led by 4.82 digs/set from Dani Dennison.
-Clark, Nalls and Nichols (2) have each turned in double-doubles in the tournament.
-Jill Kramer holds a 7-3 record in the postseason as the TCU head coach.

Ice Ice Katie
-Sophomore Katie Clark has been on a tear since moving to the middle blocker position at Kansas.
-She has delivered at least three blocks in all 13 matches since moving to the middle, while averaging 1.31 b/set and 2.85 k/s on .290 hitting.
-Against Miami (OH) she posted 12 blocks, tying the TCU program record. It was the most blocks in a single match by a Big 12 player this season and tied for seventh most in the nation.
-The blocks helped her secure her first-career double-double - 12 kills and 12 blocks.
-She followed that by setting a career-high against Bowling Green with 2.66 blocks/set - 8 blocks in three sets.
-Clark has earned double-digit kills in nine matches in the middle and 15 matches overall this season, a career-best.
-The Arlington native lead the team with 165 kills in conference play, including a career-high 21 at Texas Tech.
-Her 21 kills against TTU earlier this season stands as the eighth most kills in a single Big 12 match this season.
-Clark leads the Horned Frogs in kills/set (2.72) and points (335.5), her first 300+ point season.
-Her accomplishments were enough to earn her All-Big 12 2nd Team honors, her first end of season conference award in this, her second season.

Nichols Drops Dimes
-Since taking over the setting duties before the Texas match, McKenzie Nichols has shown tremendous strides, setting a new career-best with 59 assists against Texas Tech (10/6) while tallying over 30 assists in 13 of 17 matches as the primary setter, including 40+ assists in eight of her last 11.
-She is averaging 10.50 assists/set since taking over primary duties.
-In her last two matches, she is averaging 13.8 assists/set. Tallying over 40 assists in back-to-back three-set wins.
-She earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors after dropping 91 assists over the course of eight sets (11.38 assists/set) at the start of the month (10/2-10/6).
-Her 59 assists against Tech were the sixth most assists by a freshman in a single match in program history, the most recorded by a freshman in the 25-point set, rally scoring era.
-Her 59 assists stand as the most by a setter in Big 12 play this season and is tied for the second-most assists in a single match by a Big 12 setter this season.
-She has posted a team-best nine double-doubles this season, two in NIVC play. She tallied 40 or more assists in six double-doubles this year.

12-Carat Jewel
-Julia Adams exploded for a season-best 23 kills on .500 hitting with six blocks in TCU's match against Kansas.
-All three numbers were career high marks for the Plano native.
-Her output earned her Big 12 offensive player and rookie of the week honors (Nov. 3-9). Becoming the first Big 12 OPOW this season for TCU and third ROW.
-Her 23 kills in four sets ranks fourth in the Big 12 this season, first among freshman.
-She is the only player in the Big 12 this season to hit 20+ kills while maintaining a hitting percentage above .400 in a four-set match.
- Her 26.5 points is tied for the sixth most points collected in a single match by a Big 12 student-athlete this season and tied for second in four-set matches.
-She is the only freshman in the Big 12 to earn more than 25 points in a match this season.
-She followed that performance with 17 kills at WVU, 11 on the road at Texas and another 11 at home against Texas Tech before posting 14 kills in the home finale against Oklahoma
-Adams opened her postseason career with 13 kills against Miami (OH). It was the fifth time this season she has led the team in kills.
-In her last match, Adams led the team with 17 kills in three sets on .467 hitting.
-She has recorded at least 10 kills in seven of her last nine matches, having only hit double digits in three of her previous 18.
-She is now averaging 3.48 kills/set in her last nine matches
