GoFrogs: Mokaleng, Mapaya Record National Marks

LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU track and field began competition at the Texas Tech Classic on Friday, where the Horned Frogs faced several nationally ranked teams, including five teams ranked in the top five. Rising to the level of competition, Derrick Mokaleng and Chengetayi Mapaya recorded national marks in their season debuts in their respective events.

TOP FIVE MARKS
In the men's 400m, Mokaleng produced a third-place time of 46.23, the fifth fastest time in the NCAA this season. Displaying the level of competition in the event, the two finishers ahead of him rank first and second nationally after Friday's results.

Similarly, Mapaya finished third in the triple jump with a jump of 16.31m (53-6.25), also the fifth ranked mark in the nation. The two jumpers ahead of him now rank second and third. His jump on Friday was only three inches short of the jump that earned him a third-place finish at last year's NCAA indoor championships.

ADVANCING TO SEMIS
A pair of Horned Frogs competed well in the men's 60m. Tinotenda Matiyenga and Tarrick Brock both advanced from the prelims to the semi-final round. In the semis, Matiyenga ran a personal-best 6.74 for a ninth-place finish, one spot short of the finals.

In the women's 60m, TCU advanced all three of its entries to the semi-finals. Jenea Spinks ran 7.48 in the semis for a tenth-place finish. Destiny Longmire and Hope Glenn finished with times of 7.51 and 7.57 respectively.

POLE VAULT WIN
TCU's pole vault group continued to compete well. In the men's B section, Adam McAdoo extended his indoor school record and took home the win by reaching 4.88m (16-0).

In the women's B section, Kendahl Shue also extended her own indoor school record, reaching 3.87m (12-8.25) for a second-place finish. Freshman Tysen Townsend had a strong showing, reaching 3.67m (12-0.5) and placing fifth.
