GoFrogs: Horned Frogs Top No. 7 UCLA

CHICAGO, Ill. – Competition at the 2019 ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship came to end on Sunday afternoon for the No. 15 TCU men's tennis team as the Horned Frogs topped their second top-10 opponent over the weekend with a 4-0 victory over No. 7 UCLA at the Midtown Athletic Club in Chicago, Ill.

The doubles point was never in question for the Frogs (6-3) as the freshmen duo of Luc Fomba and Sander Jong started off the day with a 6-3 victory on court three over their Bruins (4-3) opponents. The No. 48 pair of Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder finished out the point for the Frogs as they cruised to a 6-4 victory of their own on court two.

Five of the six first sets went TCU's way to open singles action with No. 83 Kruger closing out the weekend with his third straight singles victory as he took out Mathew Tsolakyan, 6-4, 6-1. Fomba put the Frogs within one point of the victory as he got his second victory on the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court five. No. 75 Alastair Gray finished out the match for TCU as the junior was able to down Govind Nanda in straight sets on court two to give the Frogs their third victory over a ranked opponent this season.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"Our guys had a huge challenge today. After the way we lost yesterday, they responded the way any coach in the world would want them to respond. I'm very proud of the character and resilience they showed today. To beat UCLA is something that very few programs have the privilege of saying. They are one of the best programs year in year out and playing them today after such a heartbreaking loss to Wake Forest yesterday was an opportunity we were hoping to take advantage of. Our win at No. 3 doubles was huge and probably the match that set the tone.
For (Bertus) Kruger, (Luc) Fomba and especially Alastair (Gray) to get off the court in two sets was huge and didn't give UCLA a chance to bounce back.

"Coming to this tournament is a huge privilege for any team and every coach knows that winning any match is very hard to do here. Two elite teams will leave Chicago 0-3 from this trip and it can happen to any team. Leaving here with a 2-1 record is remarkable and something to be very proud and optimistic about. We had some players really step up on this trip. Bertus Kruger, Sander Jong and Luc Fomba had a great trip. They made the difference and I'm happy for them and I'm sure they will continue to work so they can have this feeling as often as possible. Midtown Athletic Club here in Chicago and the ITA did a great job with this event and we feel very privileged to have been a part of this experience. We also want to thank our Frog Fans from Chicago who came to support us and made us feel welcomed, supported and loved."
