FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 9 TCU men’s tennis team continued its hot streak with its 10th straight victory by recording a 4-0 sweep of No. 11 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (16-3, 3-0 Big 12) stayed perfect in conference action as over 1,000 fans were in attendance for today’s match against the Cowboys (20-6, 2-2 Big 12). Doubles action was all TCU as the two ranked pairs on the team cruised to victories. The No. 63 pair of Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder kicked things off with a 6-3 win on court three before the No. 6 duo of Guillermo Nuñez and Alex Rybakov clinched it with a 6-2 win on court one.
The momentum continued into singles action as TCU grabbed the opening set on all six courts. Stalder was the first off the court with the junior dominating with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court five. No. 17 Rybakov followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 71 Artur Dubinski on court one before No. 70 Trevor Johnson finished off the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court two.
With the win on Sunday, TCU stands in sole possession of first place in the Big 12 standings and with a victory on Thursday will get at least a share of the regular season title for the third straight year.
Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
“Today was a very good day for the guys. We were able to get that doubles point and get on top of them right away and we never really looked back. We had some players start really well and get out to a fast start and we had some pairs get off to a slow start. But, we kept competing to get that doubles point and then we just built too much momentum. As a coach, I am proud of the way the guys bounced back from Friday and the fact that even though we had a very emotional win, we were ready to play today. That is credit to Coach (Devin) Bowen and the guys for being ready to battle.
“Now we have Baylor on Thursday. I don’t need to tell you fans, but we need you. If we can win that match, we can guarantee ourselves at least a share of the Big 12 title so we want you out here. We will have a really fun atmosphere out here on Thursday so please come out and support us. We appreciate everyone who helped us this weekend. Our administration for supporting all the activities we had going on and I think our program took a step in the right direction this weekend with the type of atmosphere and crowd. I am so blessed to be here at TCU.”
