GoFrogs: TCU Rebounds with Win over TTU

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 9 TCU men's tennis team rebounded from a loss on Friday by scoring a 5-2 victory over No. 29 Texas Tech to get the team's first Big 12 victory this season on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth.

With the win by the Horned Frogs (16-4, 1-1 Big 12) over the Red Raiders (13-9, 0-2 Big 12), the team is now 11-1 at home this season and won 11 of the last 12 matches played. The road to victory all started in doubles with Alastair Gray and Alex Rybakov kicking things off with a 6-3 win on court two. The freshmen duo of Luc Fomba and Sander Jong used early breaks on court three to get out to a lead and then Fomba served it out as TCU captured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.

Jong continued to cruise in singles action as he quickly put the Frogs up 2-0 in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six. No. 25 Gray followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win of his own on court two as the junior has now won nine of his last 10 matches played. Texas Tech responded with straight-set wins on courts three and four, but senior and No. 7 Rybakov continued his dominance with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win at the top position to seal the team victory. Rybakov has now won nine straight matches and is 20-1 on the season and 12-1 against ranked foes. After the match was already clinched, Fomba was able to come back and get the victory on court five with a 6-7(6), 6-3, 1-0(8) win over Franco Ribero.

Quotes from the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
"It is good to see our team bounce back from our loss on the road. Our guys love playing at home and they were able to get the win over Texas Tech. It's nice to finally win the doubles point and then Sander (Jong), Alastair (Gray) and (Alex) Rybakov took care of business. We didn't look our best in a few spots and that's due to Texas Tech putting the pressure on us. We have a huge match vs No. 4 Texas at home next Saturday and we need all of our fans. We will have plenty of parking and our fans will have a blast so please come and be loud. Today Texas Tech was louder than us and I feel we can do better."
