Men's Tennis Adds Seven Players To 2011-12 Signing Class

The Horned Frogs have inked five American players overall to join the roster this fall

FORT WORTH - TCU men's tennis head coach David Roditi announced the seven new additions to the 2011-12 roster Thursday. The Horned Frogs will total eight newcomers overall in the fall, including American standout Nick Chappell, who committed to the Purple and White in November.

“I am very excited about every single one of the guys that we are bringing in this fall,” Roditi said. “They each bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and eagerness to develop their tennis skills and academics. Even though they are new to the Horned Frog family, it is a very experienced group of players that brings an abundance of national and international experience to our team, including over 150 singles futures events.”

Four of the seven newcomers hail from the United States, highlighted by a pair of Division I transfers. TCU also reeled in a pair of international student-athlete transfers, as well as an incoming freshman from Spain.

Junior transfer JT Sundling comes to Fort Worth wielding a pair of national championship rings as a member of the USC Trojans’ roster. The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native compiled a 26-16 singles record and 46-17 doubles ledger in two seasons in Southern California. Sundling teamed up with doubles partner Jaak Poldma to tally a 24-7 overall record this spring, including an 11-2 mark from the No. 1 position, to finish the year ranked No. 17 in the nation.

Max Stevens joins the Frogs’ roster after spending two years at the University of Tennessee. After redshirting as a true freshman, Stevens tallied a 12-10 record in singles and 12-5 in doubles in 2010. The Dallas, Texas product won three 4A Texas state tennis titles at Highland Park before graduating early to join the Volunteers at the beginning of the 2009 spring semester.

The Frogs also signed a pair of incoming freshmen standouts out of the Brookhaven Tennis Academy in Frisco, Texas, adding Blake Wiggins and Will Stein. Both players are considered four-star recruits by the Tennis Recruiting Network and listed as two of the top-150 graduating high school seniors in the nation.

Orlando Superlano leads off the international signees for Roditi, moving to Fort Worth after playing two seasons at New Mexico State University. The native of Venezuela led the 2011 Aggies with 27 singles wins to earn second-team All-WAC accolades, while also compiling a 20-9 doubles ledger. As a freshman, Superlano earned second-team doubles honors in 2010 and was an ITA Scholar Athlete. He was a member of the 2006 Venezuelan Davis Cup team and has been ranked as high as No. 1051 on the ATP World Tour.

Junior college first-team All-American Rodolfo Bustamante comes to TCU after helping lead Collin College to the 2010 NJCAA National Championship. The Cougars were fourth in the country in 2011. The Bauro, Brazil native also adds international amateur experience from his play on the ATP World Tour. He has been ranked as high as No. 1326 on the ATP circuit.

Incoming freshman Arnau Dachs rounds out the class for the Frogs, traveling to Fort Worth from Vic, Spain. Dachs has racked up 55 amateur wins since 2008, highlighted by his 35 victories in 2010. He is currently ranked No. 1306 on the ATP World Tour.
