GoFrogs: Johnson Named to AP All-Bowl Team

NEW YORK -- TCU linebacker Jawuan Johnson has been named to the Associated Press All-Bowl Team for his performance in the Horned Frogs' 10-7 overtime victory versus Cal in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Johnson had a team-high seven tackles, including one for loss, and an interception on Cal's overtime possession. He was key in TCU limiting the Golden Bears to just 264 yards of offense.

A graduate transfer, Johnson had one of TCU's five picks in the contest. The five interceptions were a Cheez-It Bowl record and tied for the most in a game in the 18 seasons with Gary Patterson as head coach. It was the first time TCU had five different players with an interception in a game under Patterson.

Johnson finished the season fourth on TCU with 71 tackles. He started the final seven games of the season and totaled 58 stops in those contests.

The Horned Frogs have won 10 of their last 13 bowl games and are 11-6 in bowls with Patterson as head coach and 13-6 with him on the coaching staff. Before Patterson's arrival on campus in 1998, TCU had just four bowl wins in its history.

TCU (7-6) secured its 15th winning season in Patterson's 18 years as head coach and will enter the 2019 campaign with the longest active winning streak (three) in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs won four of their final five games.
