GoFrogs: Hoover Named to Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2024
FORT WORTH -- TCU's Josh Hoover has been named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2024, making him an official candidate for the 2024 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
A sophomore from Heath, Texas, Hoover ranks fifth in the FBS in passing yards (2,614) while tying for fifth with 37 completions of at least 20 yards. He is tied for eighth nationally with 19 touchdown passes. He had three against Texas Tech, including two in the fourth quarter as the Horned Frogs rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit for a 35-34 win.
Hoover has thrown for at least 300 yards in four of the last six contests and in 10 of 14 career starts. He is on pace for 4,248 yards passing which would shatter the TCU season mark of 3,901 by Trevone Boykin in 2014 when he was fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. Hoover has passed for at least three touchdowns in six of his 14 starts. He projects to 31 scoring tosses on the season which would place third at TCU behind only Boykin (33, 2014) and 2022 Heisman runner-up Max Duggan (32, 2022).
Semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien Award will be announced Nov. 12. The award is named after former TCU standout Davey O'Brien, who won the 1938 Heisman Trophy en route to leading the Horned Frogs to their second national championship in four seasons. Duggan was the 2022 recipient, becoming the first Horned Frog to win the award.
