GoFrogs: Gums Vaults into Top 10 after Career-Low at Maridoe
CARROLLTON, Texas – Senior Justin Gums shot a career-low 6-under 66 Wednesday at Maridoe Golf Club to finish in the top 10 of the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational.
Gums made seven birdies on the day and was 6-under 30 on the back nine. The Lodi, Calif., native moved up 23 spots to finish tied for seventh at even-par 216. Tournament champion Cameron Sisk of Arizona State was the only other player to shoot 66 or better during the week.
All five Horned Frogs shot better in the final round than they did on Tuesday. Brent Hamm shot 2-over 74, including 2-under 34 on the front nine and finished tied for 41st place overall at 11-over 227. Jan Schneider also shot 2-over 74 and finished 14-over 230 to tie for 48th place.
As a team, TCU shot 2-over 290, its best round of the tournament. The Horned Frogs finished in 11th place at 40-over 904. No. 7 Oklahoma (-3) won the tournament, which included five of the nation's top 10 teams.
TCU will next be in action when it hosts 14 of the best teams in the nation at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 4-5, at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
