FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU baseball alumni are prominent up and down the ranks of professional baseball. In total, the Horned Frogs have 13 former players playing professional ball at various levels.
Scott Atchison (1995-99) is the lone Major League representative as he earned a spot on the Boston Red Sox's opening day roster. An impressive crop of players are on AAA rosters to open the season.
Former first round draft pick Lance Broadway will open the season with the Toronto Blue Jays' Las Vegas 51's. Eugene Espineli returns to the San Francisco Giants' Fresno Grizzlies and Jake Arrieta will pitch for Baltimore's Norfolk Tides. Sam Demel will pitch for Oakland's Sacramento River Cats.
After being claimed on waivers and added to the 40-man roster by the New York Yankees on Wednesday, Chad Huffman will make his Yankees debut with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Andrew Cashner will be the opening day starter for the Tennessee Smokies, the AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Matt Carpenter will open the season at High A Palm Beach, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Andrew Walker will also play in High A this season for the Pittsburgh Pirates Bradenton Marauders.
Seth Garrison, a member of the Boston Red Sox organization, will miss the first few weeks of the season on the disabled list.
Still awaiting their assignments for the 2010 campaign are Brent Allar (Baltimore), Chance Corgan (San Francisco) and Matt Vern (San Diego).
