Frog Finish Strong to Conclude Penn Relays

TCU now prepares for the 2011 MWC Outdoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA – The men’s 4x100 relay squad and sophomore sprinter Charles Silmon led the TCU track and field team in the final day of action at the 117th running of the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

“You are never satisfied with how you do but it was a good day,” TCU head coach Darryl Anderson said. “We had a little trouble with the first exchange on the men’s 4x100 relay, but came away in third place in a very stacked field, so we can walk away feeling better about that. Charles Silmon getting second in the 100 meters was a positive for us. I think we got some work in this week and it was a great experience for our kids to be able to come out and compete in front of the big crowds at the Penn Relays and run alongside world-class athletes”

“Now we’ve got about two weeks to put the finishing touches on what we need to do before Mountain West Championships and from there its on to the West regional and then onto the NCAA Championships.”

The men's 4x100 quartet of OJ Stoneham, Mark Barnes, Mychal Dungey and Silmon registered a time of 3:35.95 for a third-place showing in Saturday's Championship of America final. The Horned Frogs finished behind runner-up Florida (40.00) and champion LSU (38.77).

Silmon returned to the track to rally to second-place honors in the Championship of America finals of the men’s 100 meters, clocking in with a time of 10.41, behind LSU’s Mvumvure (10.33).

Other highlights in Philadelphia included Cameron Parker finishing seventh overall in the men’s triple jump finals and the women’s 4x400 relay earning fourth place honors.

TCU will now begin preparations for the 2011 Mountain West Conference Championships, May 11-14, in Fort Collins, Colo.

This has to be wrong. I think the 4x400 results got confused with the 4x100.

Startlegram says 40.15 for the men's 4X100. The 3:35.95 is the women's 4X400 time.
