GoFrogs: Freshmen Key TCU’s 13-5 Win
SAN DIEGO – A 9-run fourth inning helped No. 18 TCU to a 13-5 win over San Diego Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park. Noah Francohomered twice in the fourth and drove in four runs in the game. Freshman Trever Baumler earned his first career win on the mound.

The Rundown
A trio of freshman arms made their debut in the game and held the Toreros four runs (three earned). Trever Baumler (1-0) went five innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on five hits. He walked one and struck out five. Nate Stern retired all four batters he faced. Kaden Smith allowed a run on two hits, walked one and struck out one in an inning. Mason Bixby allowed an unearned run on a hit and struck out four in his two innings of work.

Chse Brunson got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly in the third to give the Frogs an early 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, TCU sent 13 men to the plate, scoring nine times. Franco's first of two, two-run home runs in the inning gave TCU a 3-0 lead. With the bases loaded and two outs, the bats came to life. Brunson lined a two-run single into center. Cramer followed with an RBI single and Bowen tripled in two more runs. Franco's second home run of the frame capped the scoring and the Frogs had a 10-0 lead.

San Diego picked up a trio of runs to pull within 10-3, but the Frogs had an answer in the form of an Isaac Cadena two-run blast in the seventh. TCU responded to another USD run with one of its own in the eighth. Franco walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 13-4 lead.

A ninth inning run for San Diego accounted for the final score.

TCU scored nine runs in the fourth inning. It's the most runs scored in an inning since the Frogs did it in the fifth inning against UNC Wilminton on April 15, 2023.
