Dougherty Memorial Services Set

Former Frog head coach passed last week at age 50

FORT WORTH--Memorial services for former TCU men's basketball head coach Neil Dougherty have been set for this weekend in his hometown of Leavenworth, Kan. A special memorial has been set up in his name to benefit Fort Worth's H.O.P.E. Farm.

Dougherty, who headed up the Horned Frog program from 2002 through 2008, passed away last week in Indianapolis, Ind., where he was working for iHoops, a joint venture between the NBA and NCAA that works to promote youth basketball. He was survived by his wife, Patti, two sons, Neil Jr. and Ryan, and a daughter, Megan. Neil Jr. played four seasons under his father at TCU prior to graduating in 2007.

"Our basketball program is deeply saddened by the loss of Coach Dougherty, whose class and integrity were inspirational to all of us," current TCU head coach Jim Christian said last week. "My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time."

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Leavenworth's Sacred Heart Church, while a preceding wake will be held Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the same location.

The Dougherty family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Neil's name to H.O.P.E. Farm, an organization aimed at benefiting section's of Fort Worth's at-risk youth. Contributions can be made online here or via mail at 865 E. Ramsey Ave., Fort Worth, TX, 76104.
