TCU Camp '10: Dalton Provides Veteran Leadership

TCU senior leads the nation in wins among active quarterbacks

FORT WORTH, Texas -- GoFrogs.com concludes its position-by-position preview of the 2010 TCU football team with a look at the quarterbacks. Andy Dalton (6-3, 220, Sr.) will be in his fourth year as TCU's starting signal caller.

CBSSports.com senior writer Dennis Dodd wrote this spring, "Andy Dalton should start near the top of Heisman Trophy lists." Dalton received votes for the 2009 Heisman.

Dalton was the 2009 Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year while appearing on multiple All-America teams. He was also one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award, recognizing the nation's top quarterback. He appears on watch lists for five national awards this season.

Dalton tops all active quarterbacks nationally with 29 victories as a starter. He's also tied with Slingin' Sammy Baugh (1934-36) for the most career wins by a starting quarterback at TCU.

Dalton ranked eighth in the nation in passing efficiency in 2009 with a 151.8 rating. He set a single-season TCU record with 2,756 yards passing, while his 61.6 completion percentage and 23 touchdown passes placed second.

The Katy, Texas, native ranked fourth on TCU in 2009 with 512 yards rushing on a 4.4 per carry mark. He ran for 88 and 86 yards, respectively, in road wins at Wyoming and Clemson.

The Horned Frogs' all-time leader in passing yards (7,457) and total offense (8,633 yards), Dalton ranks second with 603 completions, 44 touchdown passes and a 60.2 completion percentage.

Dalton, a two-time bowl game Most Valuable Player, is also second in TCU history for the lowest interception percentage at 2.4 (24 picks in 1,001 pass attempts). It's a mark that ranks third among active quarterbacks in the NCAA.

Yogi Gallegos (6-1, 208, So.) and Casey Pachall (6-4, 208, RFr.) will battle for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

Gallegos saw action in two games last season. He completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 2,401 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior at Irving (Texas) High School.

Pachall redshirted in 2009. He did gain valuable experience as a member of the Horned Frogs' travel squad for each game.

Pachall had a decorated prep career at Brownwood (Texas) High School. He arrived at TCU after turning down scholarship offers from the likes of Florida, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Matt Brown (6-1, 185, Fr.) and Sam Carter (6-0, 205, Fr.) are a pair of newcomers who will look to make their mark.
