Dallas Baptist Walks Off With 9-7 Victory

Weik and Elander homer for TCU in the loss

DALLAS, Texas - Jason Krizan hit a two-run walk-off home run to give Dallas Baptist a 9-7 victory over TCU Monday night at Patriot Field. The loss snaps the Horned Frogs seven game winning streak. Joe Weik and Josh Elander homered for the Frogs in the loss. Nick Frey allowed five runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings of work. The freshman walked one and hit two batters in the no-decision. Kyle Starratt (0-1) did yeoman's work on the mound in relief. He allowed four runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. The junior fanned a career-high eight batters and issued just one walk.

At one point in the game, the Frogs faced a 6-2 deficit. TCU fought all the way back, eventually tying the game at seven but the Patriots Jason Krizan snatched the victory for Dallas Baptist with a two-run walk-off home run. With one out, Starratt plunked Tyler Robbins ahead of Krizan's home run.

TCU had jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brance Rivera took the first pitch of the game and lined a base hit into left field. After falling behind 0-2, Jantzen Witte got a pitch to hit, doubling to left field to put two in scoring position with nobody out. Taylor Featherston gave the Frogs the lead with a long sacrifice fly to left field, plating Rivera with the first run of the game.

The Patriots got the run right back in the bottom of the frame. Robbins singled with one out and scored on a long double off the bat of Krizan.

In the bottom of the second, the first five batters reached base as the Patriots built a 5-1 lead. Josh Wilson was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to put Dallas Baptist up 2-1. Landon Anderson hit a two-run double and Robbins capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

In the fifth inning, the teams traded solo home runs. Joe Weik pulled the Frogs within three, 5-2 with a solo shot to lead off the inning. His long ball was answered by Joel Hutter with one out in the bottom of the frame.

TCU inched closer in the top of the sixth as it took advantage of a lead-off error by the Patriot shortstop. Jason Coats reached on the miscue and scored on a long home run off the bat of Josh Elander. The two-run shot made it a 6-4 contest.

Back-to-back walks by Williamson to open the seventh inning had the Frogs in business. Weik moved to second on the walk to Rivera and the Frogs used two fly balls to right field to pull within one, 6-5. Featherston collected his second RBI of the game with his second sacrifice fly of the game.

Krizan and Hutter stroked doubles in the bottom of the seventh to get the run back for the Patriots to make it a 7-5 contest.

TCU finally completed the comeback as it pushed across two runs in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at seven. Zac Jordan singled with one out and Weik worked his second walk of the game with two outs. Patriot closer Chris Haney unleashed a wild pitch to advance the runners 90 feet and the Frogs made it hurt as Rivera lined a single up the middle to tie the game.

TCU falls to 29-12 on the season. The Frogs will turn right around and face nationally-ranked Oklahoma Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The match-up will feature TCU's Andrew Mitchell against the Sooner's Bobby Shore. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
