Crespo 35th In 100 Breaststroke At Olympics

Panama native appears in second career Olympic Games

RESULTS | TCU AT THE OLYMPICS

LONDON - TCU swimmer Edgar Crespo took part in his second career Olympic Games, competing in the 100-meter breaststroke Saturday at the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre. Representing his home country of Panama, Crespo finished 35th in a time of 1:02.18. He did not qualify for the 16-man semifinal round that takes place later today.

Crespo was aggressive in his race, leading at the 50-meter turn, going 28.75 over the first half of the race. However, he closed the race with a last 50-meter split of 33.43.

Crespo's career arc shows the improvement he put in at TCU leading up to his second Olympic Games. At the 2008 Games in Beijing, Crespo finished 53rd with a time of 1:03.72, which was then the best time of his career.

Crespo finished his career at TCU as a seven-time All-Mountain West Conference honoree. He competed at the NCAA Championships in 2010 and 2011. At the Conference-USA Invitational back in February, Crespo broke four school records. He finished his TCU career as No. 1 in school history in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke and as a member of TCU's all-time top 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams.
